How Does Botox® Work?
Botox® is the trade name for an FDA approved injection that eliminates or reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, or crows feet near the eyes. Botox works by blocking nerve signals that would otherwise tell muscles to contract. When injected into muscles that produce crows' feet around the mouth, for example, those muscles no longer contract, thereby eliminating the wrinkles and creases.
As a pharmaceutical grade product, the toxin that affects the muscle has been sterilized, purified and weakened to the point where only the desired muscle groups are impacted and only for a limited period of time. When correctly administered, Botox® eliminates or greatly reduces wrinkles and skin creases, but does not affect a patient's ability to voluntarily move the muscles in his or her face. The FDA reports that Botox® is the nation's most popular cosmetic treatment - each year close to 2 million doses are administered.
The Tritt Aesthetic & Plastic Center administers Botox® in a clean, safe and comfortable treatment facility. Our physicians and anesthetists have undergone rigorous training in the use of the Botox® serum. "Botox® should not be administered in an exercise gym or in someone's living room," cautions Dr. Ramie A. Tritt, Medical Director of the Tritt Aesthetic and Wellness Center. "I strongly caution anyone against taking Botox® injections in a so-called Botox® Party or in a non-sterile environment. At our facility, we adhere to the FDA's directives about the application, storage and use of Botox, as our patients' safety is our primary concern."
