<<RETURN What is Botox®? Botox® is an injectable serum derived from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum.  This bacterium produces several neurotoxins, among which is botulinum toxin A, and Botox is a trade name owned by the pharmaceutical company Allergan for botulinum toxin A.  Botox® works by blocking muscle contractions. When injected into localized muscle groups that cause wrinkles, those muscles stop contracting and your wrinkles disappear.  The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of Botox® to treat a variety of conditions.  FDA approval means that the Botox® serum used for wrinkle reduction and other conditions has been tested extensively for safety and effectiveness.
